Lithium niobate offers transparency between 0.25 and 5.3 μm, making it suitable for visible, near-infrared, and mid-infrared applications. The material exhibits superior piezoelectric effects, nonlinear optical properties, photoelastic effects, and Pockels effects (linear electro-optic effects), with coefficients significantly larger than comparable ferroelectrics.
