Magnesium Ribbon Anode Used In Long - Distance Pipelines For Cathodic Protection
Introduction:
The strip-shaped magnesium anode is made of pure magnesium or magnesium-manganese alloy cold-rolled and pressed. The open-circuit potential (reference electrode Cu/CuSO4) is -1.7V, and the mass per unit length is 0.37kg/m. used in the environment.
The output current of the magnesium ribbon is 10mA/m in soil with a resistivity of 50Ω·m and 3mA/m in fresh water with a resistivity of 150Ω·m. The surface area of strip-shaped magnesium anode of the same mass is much larger than that of ingot-shaped magnesium anode. For example, the surface area of 11kg magnesium ingot is 0.27m2, while the length of 11kg magnesium strip is 30m, and the surface area is 1.9m2, which is 7 times that of the former.
The anode output current is proportional to the surface area and inversely proportional to the resistivity. Anode quality determines anode life. The local soil resistivity should be considered in the design, and the service life of the magnesium tape should be considered to be equivalent to the service life of the pipeline when it is wound on the pipeline in the crossing section or the casing.
