Ferro Chrome Description

Ferrochrome is classified into high carbon ferrochrome according to different carbon content, including loading grade ferrochrome (C≦10%), medium carbon ferrochrome (C≦4.0%), low carbon ferrochrome (C≦0.5%), microcarbon Ferrochrome (C≦0.15%), etc. Commonly used are silicon chromium alloys, chromium nitride and the like. Ferrochromium is mainly used as an alloying additive for steelmaking, and was added in the later stages of refining of steelmaking. In the smelting of low-carbon steel such as stainless steel, low-carbon and micro-carbon ferrochrome must be used, so the production of refined ferrochrome has once been developed on a large scale. Due to the improvement of the steelmaking process, when producing steel such as stainless steel by the AOD method (see refining outside the furnace), the carbon ferrochrome (mainly the charging grade ferrochrome) is used for the furnace, so it is only necessary to increase the temperature in the later stage. Micro-carbon ferrochrome is used to adjust the composition, so now the focus of ferrochrome production is to refine carbon ferrochrome.

Low carbon Ferro chrome (FeCr) is a ferro alloy of chromium and iron, containing 50% to 70% chromium. The ferro chrome is produced by electric arc melting of chromite, an iron magnesium chromium oxide and the most important chromium ore. It can divide into Charge FeCr, Carbon FeCr, Low carbon FeCr and Micro carbon FeCr.
