H-Beams are steel beams made of rolled steel in the shape of the alphabet “H.” They are fabricated as built-up units. The flanges are welded to the web to form the H-section. H-beams are also called wide flange beams. The web of I-beams is thinner than H-beams.

What are H Beams used for? H Beams are commonly used in the construction of buildings as well but also large trailers and bridges, among others. Due to their slightly different cross-section shape, thicker central web and wider flanges, H beams can bear larger loads than I beams.
H-beam: The H-beam looks like one piece of metal but it has a bevel where three pieces of metal come together. I-beam: An I-beam is not made by welding or riveting sheets of metal together and is only one piece of metal throughout.
