SpO2 sensors work by emitting light at two different wavelengths (usually red and infrared) through the tissue and detecting the amount of light that is absorbed by the oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin in the blood. Based on the ratio of absorbed light at each wavelength, the sensor can determine the oxygen saturation level in the blood.
