Mold base / Base Plate is a part that holds the mold cavity, Inserts and other parts for plastic injection mold, It also plays a vital role in installing the mold to the plastic injection molding machine.

Mold base material can be divided into three categories:

• Hot rolled steel
• Chrome-moly materials
• Stainless steel

1. HOT ROLLED STEEL materials ranges from low carbon steel (A-36) to medium carbon steel (1045 ). These steels are easy to do the machining and have fair tensile strength. These steels are readily available and are very cost- effective.
2. CHROME-MOLY MATERIAL are P20, C45 etc., have a hardness range from 27-35 HRC. Not only mold base but they can be utilized as core plate, cavity plate too. They get machined fairly well and a readily use by injection mold manufacturers.
3. STAINLESS STEEL these steels are pre-hardened to 30-35 HRC. Stainless steel is not quite pocket friendly But has very good machinability. The material does not require stress reveling processes .In areas of heavy rainfall humidity is a big problem so it’s corrosion resistant Property works quite well.
