Indications
It is indicated for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions including meniscal injuries, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament ruptures, articular cartilage injuries, intra-articular free bodies (also known as arthrogryposis), osteoarthritis, inflammatory joints, hyperpigmented villous nodular synovitis, crystalline arthropathies, infectious arthritis and traumatic arthritis.
Advantages
Arthroscopy can view almost all parts of the joint and is more comprehensive and more accurate than amputation because the images are magnified. Additionally, the incision area is small, causing less trauma, less scarring, faster recovery, fewer complications, and in some cases, the ability to lie down on the ground after anesthesia, giving patients confidence that they will overcome the disease. Arthroscopic surgery can often provide immediate results in diagnosing joint diseases or treating joint injuries that have plagued patients for years.
1. The incision is small and aesthetically pleasing, which can avoid irritation caused by scarring on the joint surface and movement area in the late stage;
2. It is a minimally invasive procedure with less pain and less postoperative reaction, which is easy for patients to accept;
3. You can move and use the limbs in the early postoperative period, avoiding long-term bed-ridden complications and reducing nursing staff and costs;
4. Complications are relatively few;
5. It basically does not affect the muscle structure around the joint and functional exercises can be performed early after surgery to prevent the wastage and complications caused by long-term fixation of the joint;
6. It can observe and examine the lesions in the joint under a nearly physiological environment, which is called "putting eyes and fingers into the joint", and it can carry out dynamic examination of the joint, which improves the diagnostic ability, and certain diseases, such as synovial folds syndrome, are established only through arthroscopy;
7. Arthroscopy can perform surgery that was difficult to complete in the past open surgery, such as partial meniscectomy.
