Tert-Butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) is a high-performance food-grade antioxidant with CAS number 1948-33-0. This white to light grey crystalline powder features a subtle characteristic odor and is particularly effective for stabilizing crude oils and highly unsaturated vegetable oils like sunflower oil.

With a melting point of 126.5-128.5°C and boiling point of 295°C, TBHQ demonstrates excellent solubility in organic solvents while being minimally soluble in water. It provides superior anti-corrosion protection for vegetable oils without discoloration when exposed to iron or copper, though it may turn pink in alkaline conditions.
