Introduction:
A colorless to pale yellow liquid with a blue fluorescence and a fruity, neroli-like aroma. It has a freezing point of 24°C and a boiling point of 273°C (or 132°C at 1.87 kPa). It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and slightly soluble in water and glycerol.
Uses:
It serves as an intermediate for pesticides and saccharin. Methyl anthranilate possesses a sweet, floral (tuberose-like) aroma—resembling grapes when diluted—and is used in the blending of inexpensive artificial floral fragrances, as well as in soap scents and grape flavorings.
