Inconel 617/UNS N06617/2.4663/NiCr23Co12Mo For High-Temperature Applications And Corrosive Environments
Inconel 617 (also known by its UNS designation N06617 or material number 2.4663) is a high-performance, nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy that is designed to provide excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and other forms of high-temperature corrosion. It is commonly used in applications where high strength and superior resistance to extreme conditions, such as those found in gas turbines, furnace components, and chemical processing, are required.

Key Characteristics:
- High-Temperature Strength: Inconel 617 maintains excellent mechanical strength at temperatures up to around 1100°C (2012°F).
- Oxidation Resistance: Outstanding resistance to oxidation, especially at elevated temperatures, due to its high chromium content.
- Corrosion Resistance: Exceptional resistance to sulfur and carburization in high-temperature environments.
- Thermal Stability: Good resistance to thermal creep and long-term oxidation.
- Weldability: Can be welded using most conventional techniques, although pre- and post-weld heat treatments may be necessary for optimal properties.
Applications:
- Gas turbines and engine components
- Furnace components
- Heat exchangers
- Chemical processing industries
- Nuclear reactors
Forms:
Inconel 617 is available in various forms, including wire, sheet, plate, and pipe. The wire is often used for applications such as high-temperature thermocouples, welding rods, and in the manufacture of other high-performance components.
Mechanical Properties (at room temperature):
- Tensile Strength: Approximately 100-110 ksi (690-758 MPa)
- Yield Strength: Approximately 45-50 ksi (310-345 MPa)
- Elongation: Around 30-50%
- Hardness: Rockwell B 80-95
Inconel 617 is particularly suitable for use in harsh thermal and corrosive environments where high strength, stability, and resistance to thermal fatigue are required.
