Nichrome Resistance Wire Cr20Ni80/80Ni20Cr/NiCr8020 with High Mechanical Properties for Electric Heating Applications
Nichrome Resistance Wire Cr20Ni80/80Ni20Cr/NiCr8020 is a nickel-chromium-based alloy that contains 20% chromium and 80% nickel. This high-nickel content makes it highly resistant to oxidation and corrosion at high temperatures, making it an ideal material for resistive heating elements, industrial furnaces, and applications requiring stable electrical resistivity at elevated temperatures. Nichrome Resistance Wire Cr20Ni80/80Ni20Cr/NiCr8020 is a high-performance nickel-chromium alloy designed for high-temperature applications where oxidation resistance, electrical resistivity, and thermal stability are critical. Its primary use is in heating elements, resistors, furnace components, and thermocouples. The alloy’s high nickel content gives it excellent resistance to oxidation and scaling at elevated temperatures, making it a durable choice for harsh industrial environments. Although it is more expensive than lower-nickel alloys, its performance in demanding applications justifies its use in industries that require reliability and durability over time.

Some key features of Nichrome Resistance Wire Cr20Ni80/80Ni20Cr/NiCr8020 include:
- Composition:
Nickel (Ni): 80% (provides excellent resistance to oxidation, high-temperature stability, and electrical resistivity).
Chromium (Cr): 20% (enhances oxidation and corrosion resistance, particularly in high-temperature environments).
Iron (Fe): Small amounts (balance), adding to the alloy’s strength and workability.
Other Elements: Trace amounts of silicon, manganese, and carbon for improving fabrication and strength.
- High-Temperature Resistance:
Oxidation Resistance: The 20% chromium content helps form a protective oxide layer at elevated temperatures, making the alloy highly resistant to oxidation in high-temperature environments, up to around 1100°C (2012°F).
Thermal Cycling Resistance: With its ability to withstand repeated heating and cooling cycles, it is ideal for use in applications that experience constant thermal fluctuations, such as electric furnaces or heating elements.
- Electrical Resistivity:
High Electrical Resistivity: Due to its high nickel content, NiCr8020 offers high electrical resistivity, making it suitable for resistance heating applications where consistent resistance is necessary.
Stable Resistance: The alloy maintains stable electrical resistance even under varying temperature conditions, making it ideal for resistive heating and thermocouple applications.
- Corrosion and Scaling Resistance:
Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The chromium content significantly improves the alloy’s ability to resist oxidizing atmospheres, as well as sulfidation and scaling in high-temperature environments.
Scaling Resistance: Forms a protective oxide layer that prevents scaling, which would otherwise reduce the material’s life in high-temperature furnaces or heaters.
- Mechanical Properties:
Tensile Strength and Ductility: Offers good tensile strength at elevated temperatures, as well as sufficient ductility to allow for drawing into wire, strips, and coils.
Work Hardening: The material may work-harden during cold working, which is common in high-strength alloys, and may require post-fabrication heat treatment to restore its ductility.
- Weldability and Fabrication:
Weldability: Can be welded using standard techniques like TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, though welding should be done carefully to avoid embrittlement or cracking in the heat-affected zone.
Formability: It is easily drawn into wires and coils, making it versatile for use in heating elements, resistors, and furnace components.
Applications:
- Heating Elements: Widely used in electric heating elements, furnaces, ovens, and other industrial heating applications, where high temperatures and stable resistance are required.
- Resistors: Ideal for manufacturing resistors in industrial heating systems, where high and stable resistance is essential.
- Thermocouples: Suitable for temperature sensors and thermocouples that operate at high temperatures, where consistent electrical properties are required for accurate temperature measurement.
- Furnace Components: Frequently used in industrial furnaces, kilns, and dryers for applications where high resistance to oxidation and temperature cycling is necessary.
Advantages of Nichrome Resistance Wire Cr20Ni80/80Ni20Cr/NiCr8020:
- Excellent Oxidation Resistance: The high nickel content combined with chromium ensures strong resistance to oxidation in high-temperature environments.
- High Electrical Resistivity: Offers stable electrical resistance, making it ideal for resistors and heating elements.
- Thermal and Mechanical Durability: Can withstand high thermal stresses, making it ideal for thermal cycling applications like furnaces and heating systems.
- Corrosion Resistance: Resists oxidation, scaling, and sulfidation in high-temperature environments, extending the alloy's lifespan in harsh conditions.
- Versatile Fabrication: Can be drawn into wire, strip, and other forms, and can be welded into components for various applications.
