Key Features of NiCr Alloy Wire Cr20Ni30:
- Composition:
Nickel (Ni): 30% (provides good high-temperature stability, corrosion resistance, and electrical resistivity).
Chromium (Cr): 20% (enhances oxidation resistance, improving the alloy’s ability to withstand high-temperature oxidation).
Iron (Fe): Balance, contributing to the alloy's structural integrity and workability.
Trace Elements: Manganese, silicon, and carbon in small amounts to improve strength and workability.
- High-Temperature Resistance:
Oxidation Resistance: With 20% chromium, the alloy forms a stable oxide layer, protecting it from oxidation in high-temperature environments, typically up to 1000°C (1832°F).
Thermal Cycling Resistance: Can withstand repeated heating and cooling without significant degradation, making it suitable for industrial heating applications.
- Electrical Resistivity:
Moderate Electrical Resistivity: The alloy has a moderate electrical resistivity, providing stable resistance over a range of temperatures. It is well-suited for resistive heating elements, where consistent performance is critical.
Temperature Coefficient of Resistance (TCR): Offers a stable TCR, which is important for applications requiring consistent resistance under varying thermal conditions.
- Corrosion and Scaling Resistance:
Oxidation Resistance: The chromium content helps the alloy resist oxidation in high-temperature air and other oxidative environments, making it durable for electric heating elements and furnace components.
Sulfidation Resistance: Resists sulfur-induced corrosion at high temperatures, making it suitable for use in some petrochemical and chemical processing environments.
- Mechanical Properties:
Tensile Strength: Maintains good strength at elevated temperatures, offering stability in mechanical applications where high thermal stresses are present.
Ductility: Offers enough ductility for drawing into wire or strips, making it versatile for manufacturing various components such as heating coils or resistors.
- Weldability and Fabrication:
Weldability: Can be welded using standard welding techniques such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) or MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, though special care must be taken to avoid embrittlement in high-heat areas.
Formability: Easily drawn into wires, coils, and strips, making it suitable for use in a wide variety of heating elements, resistors, and thermocouples.
Applications:
- Heating Elements: Ideal for use in industrial furnaces, electric heating elements, and resistance heating components where high temperatures are a factor.
- Resistors: Used in resistors and resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), where stable resistivity is important over a range of temperatures.
- Thermocouples and Temperature Sensors: Can be used in thermocouples and other temperature sensing devices that need to operate in high-temperature environments.
- Industrial Applications: Suitable for applications in high-temperature chemical processing, power generation, and petrochemical industries.
