CNPetro Petrolatum Tape is a reliable option for protecting pipelines from corrosion. While it can be used for various house connections and fittings, it is highly recommended for use in complicated parts such as T-Pieces when used in conjunction with petroleum filling materials.

The tape boasts of its anti-corrosive properties and is made from a chemical fiber-based material (like Non-Woven) coated with modified petroleum on both sides. This coating is highly adhesive and elastic, providing flexibility and easy application even in challenging conditions. The tape also has a high softening point, ensuring maximum protection for your pipelines.

We offer the Petroleum Tape with an inner wrapping tape that is used as the primary protective layer. Additionally, there is another layer of outer wrapping tape that serves as mechanical protection against impacts and other possible damages. This double layer system is a reliable solution for ensuring the longevity and durability of your pipelines.

Our product meets the NACE RP0375-2006 standard for use on surfaces that have been marginally prepared according to the SSPC SP 2-3 standard.

The coating conforms to irregular shapes and profiles, allowing for seamless application on parts with intricate designs. Even if the surface is cold or wet, it can still be applied effectively.

One of its key features is its resilience against harsh conditions such as water, acid, salts and soil organics. This makes it an ideal option for encapsulating lead paint.

Another benefit of this coating is that it contains no solvents, making it safer to handle. It can be easily applied in any temperature condition ranging from arctic to tropical without any complications.

After application, our coating can be used immediately, thanks to its rapid curing process. It meets industry standards like AS 4822-2008, ISO 21809-3:2008, and AWWA C217 Standard, with a proven track record spanning over 80 years.

Applications:

In order to prepare surfaces for further treatment, all loose scale, rust, or other foreign matter must be removed. This can be accomplished by following one of two SSPC guidelines: either by using hand tools (as laid out in SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning”) or power tools (as laid out in SSPC SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning”). Another suitable surface preparation method is high pressure water washing, which should be performed at pressures between 3,000 and 7,000 psi (20.68 - 48.26 MPa).

Once the surface is properly prepared, a thin layer of petroleum paste should be applied. The area should then be spirally wrapped with tape, ensuring a 55% overlap. Special care should be taken to press out any air pockets and smooth all joint seams. If the surface being treated is irregular in shape (for example valves or flanges), Petroleum Filler Mastic or Profiling Mastic may be required.

Finally, for additional protection, PVC Tape can be used as an outerwrap. For further details on the application and selection of these products, refer to the relevant product information sheets.
