Dual cast brake discs resolve that material conflict by splitting the rotor into two optimized components: a wear-intensive friction ring in high-carbon grey cast iron, and a lightweight center hat (also called the bell, pot, or chamber) in wrought or cast aluminum. The two are joined by a metallurgically controlled interface — a co-cast teeth connection, pressed spline, or stainless-steel pin array — that transmits drive and brake torque while allowing the iron ring to grow thermally without dragging the hat out of flat.
