Introduction about drying oven
The fundamental process inside a drying oven is a mass and heat transfer phenomenon. Heat energy from the elements is transferred to the sample, increasing the kinetic energy of the water or solvent molecules within it. When this energy overcomes the intermolecular forces binding the liquid to the sample matrix and the liquid's own vapor pressure, evaporation occurs.
The rate of drying depends on several factors: the oven temperature, the surface area of the sample, the airflow rate over the sample (which carries away saturated air), and the intrinsic properties of the material being dried. The oven manages the external variables—temperature and airflow—to drive this internal process to completion efficiently and predictably.
