General surface chain support buoys are extensively used in single-point mooring (SPM) systems. The chain support buoys include cylindrical buoys, chain-through buoys, and pick-up buoys.
General surface chain support buoys are constructed by resilient closed cell polyethylene/EVA foam around the inner central steelwork, covered by polyurethane (PU) outer skin. The resilient closed cell polyethylene/EVA foam core guarantees self-fendering and unsinkable even in case of damage. The self-colored polyurethane elastomer skin is resistant to abrasion and ultra violet rays degradation. For extreme service environments, the polyurethane elastomer skin can be reinforced by nylon to provide higher tear strength, making the buoy long-lasting and virtually maintenance-free.
Construction of Chain Through Buoys
The general surface chain through buoys is manufactured with high-quality closed-cell PE/EVA resilient foam, encapsulated with self-colored tough polyurethane elastomer skin.
- Tough reinforced polyurethane outer skin - Constructed of polyurethane elastomer, which can be reinforced with nylon filament. This unique elastomer offers high resistance to abrasion, fatigue, and ultraviolet degradation, making it significantly more durable for offshore applications.
- Laminated closed cell resilient foam core, unsinkable design - Made with highest quality closed-cell PE/EVA foam providing self-fendering with high impact absorption capacity. Even if punctured, the buoy remains unsinkable without absorbing water. Our unique laminating process ensures long-term foam core integrity.
- Steelwork and end assembly - Features through central steel tube with longitudinal gussets and external load distribution flanges at each end, epoxy coated or hot-dipped galvanized, encased in closed-cell urethane foam central body. Optional fittings include bail eye, clevis eye, swivel, chain locking plate, and single locking pin end fitting.

Foam-filled chain support buoys with chain passing through the buoy, from 1.5 Tons to 4.5 Tons (or more) - Available in cylindrical or rectangular shapes - Fitted with chain locking plate or chain locking pin on one or both ends.

SM Mooring Buoys
The mooring buoys can be installed with various fittings on the top and designed to meet different requirements. They share the same design as common mooring buoys.
The large mooring tube with 82.5mm ID will accept mooring chain of up to 20mm in diameter. Unlike standard designs, the mooring tube is not molded into the buoy but slides into a tubular section that runs down the center of the buoy, enabling tube replacement at any stage during the product's service life. Custom sizes are available upon request.
