Frequently Asked Questions
How many devices can I connect to this module?
You've got plenty of room. This module packs 32 outputs in total, split into 4 groups (8 outputs per group).
How much current can I push through each channel?
You can run 1A continuous per channel. Heads up: If your cabinet gets hot (above 45°C), you'll need to dial that back a bit (derate it) to keep things safe. The whole module shouldn't exceed 12A total.
Does this module draw a lot of power from the backplane?
It draws a maximum of 2.5A, but nominally it sits around 1.8A. Make sure your power supply has enough headroom.
What about reaction time? How fast does it switch?
It's snappy. The operate and release times are typically around 5ms (±1ms).
I need to wire this up. Which Field Wiring Arm do I need?
You'll need the Cat. No. 1771-WN. Grab your screwdriver and torque it to about 7-9 inch-pounds.
Can it handle a hot environment?
It's built for industry standard temps. It runs fine between 0°C and 60°C (32°F to 140°F). Just keep the humidity under 95% (no condensation), and you're good to go.
Installation & Application Notes
This module must be installed in a 1771-A1B through -A4B or later I/O chassis.
The module does not contain surge-limiting circuitry and should be used only for switching resistive loads. It is not recommended for inductive or capacitive loads.
Output Arrangement
- 32 outputs arranged in 4 groups of 8, each with its own common
- Can simultaneously switch all 32 outputs to separate loads
- Maximum module current: 12A
- Each output can conduct a maximum of 1.0A continuously, with 30W maximum per output
- AC loads switched by the module should have a power factor (PF) of 1.0
Cabling Requirements
- Maximum interconnect cable length is 1000 ft (304.8 meters)
