The 745 Transformer Protection System™ is a high-speed, multi-processor, three-phase relay designed for two- or three-winding transformers. It provides primary protection and management for small, medium, and large power transformers, combining percent differential, overcurrent, frequency, and overexcitation protection elements along with monitoring of individual harmonics and total harmonic distortion (THD) in a single economical package.
Adaptive Relaying Features
- Adaptive harmonic restraint to prevent false tripping during inrush
- Adaptive time overcurrent elements that adjust pickup settings based on transformer capability under high harmonic load
- Multiple setpoint groups allowing dynamic selection of up to four relay setting groups for different power system configurations
- Dynamic CT ratio mismatch correction that monitors on-load tap position and automatically corrects for CT mismatches
- FlexLogic™ enabling PLC-style logic equations based on inputs and protection elements to be assigned to any 745 output

Ethernet Connection Safety Procedures
When using the GE 745-W2-P5-G5-HI-A-L-R Transformer Protection System with the Ethernet 10Base-T option, follow these steps to ensure safe handling of the network connection:
Before Removing the Unit
Disconnect the network cable from the rear RJ45 connector before removing the unit from the case. This prevents any potential damage to the connector.
Removing with Cable Attached
The unit may be removed with the network cable still attached to the rear RJ45 connector only if at least 16 inches of cable are available. This extra cable length allows the network cable to be disconnected from the front of the switchgear panel while the unit is partially removed. Once disconnected, the cable can be safely left hanging outside the case.
Re-Inserting the Unit
When reinserting the unit into the case, first connect the network cable to the unit's rear RJ45 connector. Ensure the cable is properly seated before fully sliding the unit back into the case.
