ANDRITZ Customized CNC Machined Centrifugal Submersible Pump Bearing Housing

The bearing housing (often called the bearing chamber or oil chamber) of a submersible centrifugal pump sits at the upper end of the pump, above the mechanical seal, and supports the upper bearing of the shaft. In many ANDRITZ submersible pump arrangements this chamber is filled with oil: the oil lubricates the bearing and also acts as a barrier so that the pumped fluid cannot easily reach the motor. Because the part carries seal seats, bearing bores, and an oil boundary in a compact space, it is usually a machined component rather than a simple casting, which is why CNC accuracy matters.

When a worn or corroded chamber is received, a typical production route is:

• Reverse engineering – If no drawing is available, the sample is 3D laser scanned and measured so a working model can be rebuilt to match the original outline and interfaces.
• Material selection – Stainless steel or duplex stainless is often chosen for submersible duties where the chamber sees moisture and mild corrosion; cast or forged carbon steel may be used where the duty is less aggressive.
• CNC machining – The oil-chamber faces, mechanical-seal seat, bearing bore, and bolt pattern are machined so the bore stays concentric with the sealing faces and the part lines up with the existing pump.
• Inspection – Bore diameter and tolerance, seal-seat concentricity, flange flatness, bolt-hole position, and hardness are checked before release; pressure testing of the oil chamber can be arranged where needed.
