SULZER Centrifugal Pump Replacement Spare Parts Balance Drum
Replacement balance drums for SULZER multistage centrifugal pumps, built to your sample or drawing. In a multistage pump the balance drum forms part of the axial-thrust balance arrangement, working with the balance sleeve and (where fitted) the balance disc to steady the rotor. A worn or scored drum can let the thrust balance drift, so a well-finished running surface is usually worth getting right.
Most orders begin with a used balance drum or a clear drawing. We record the geometry, confirm the fit against the rotor and sleeve, and machine a fresh part rather than estimating the dimensions.
- Sample intake — The old balance drum, rotor section, or a dimensioned drawing is received and logged.
- 3D scanning / measurement — Geometry is captured by FARO laser scanning or manual metrology; outer diameter, fit, and axial faces are recorded.
- Modelling — A CAD model is built and checked against the rotor, balance sleeve, and seal arrangement.
- Material selection — A grade is chosen for the duty (see Specification), with wear resistance in mind.
- Machining — The drum is turned and the running surface is ground to the recorded diameter and finish.
- Surface / hardening — Treatment such as nitriding or plating is applied where the application calls for it.
- Inspection — Dimensions, hardness, and surface are checked before release.
- Packing — The drum is wrapped and boxed for the chosen mode of transport.
