Turnkey PCB Services Turnkey PCB Electronics Consigned / Sourced Components Mix
Not all components are created equal. Some are strategic—custom ASIC, proprietary sensors, or long-lead power modules that you have carefully qualified and sourced through preferred suppliers. Others are standard—resistors, capacitors, connectors, and common ICs that are readily available from multiple distributors. Managing both categories through a single manufacturing partner requires a model that accommodates mixed sourcing. Studio's Turnkey PCBA with Consigned & Sourced Components Mix is built exactly for this scenario. We accept your consigned components for the parts you want to control, and we source the remaining components through our global supply chain—all within a single, unified manufacturing process.
Our manufacturing foundation ensures consistent quality regardless of component source. 12 fully automated SMT production lines, automated wave soldering, programmable robotic soldering systems, and comprehensive inspection equipment—AOI, SPI, 3D X-Ray, ICT, FCT, flying probe testers, and an accredited reliability laboratory—deliver the same precision and reliability for every board, whether the components came from your supply chain or ours.
The mixed sourcing model combines the advantages of consignment and full-turnkey approaches:
| Sourcing Category | Responsibility | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Customer-Consigned Components | You supply | CustomASIC, proprietary sensors, qualified long-lead parts, customer-owned tooling components |
| Studio-Sourced Components | We supply | Passives, standard ICs, connectors, switches, LEDs, hardware |
| Shared Verification | Both parties | All components—regardless of source—undergo LCR testing and visual inspection |
| Benefit | What It Means for You |
|---|---|
| Control Where It Matters | You retain ownership and control of strategic or proprietary components |
| Efficiency Where It Doesn't | We source standard parts, saving you time on hundreds of commodity line items |
| Reduced Vendor Count | One manufacturing partner for all assembly—even with mixed component sources |
| Cost Optimization | You use your negotiated pricing for strategic parts; we use our volume pricing for standard parts |
| Risk Distribution | Supply chain risk is shared between you and Studio |
| Faster Procurement | Parallel sourcing—you source your parts while we source ours |
- Step 1: Component Classification – We work with you to classify every component on your BOM. Each part is assigned a sourcing responsibility: Customer-Consigned or Studio-Sourced. This classification is documented and agreed before procurement begins.
- Step 2: Parallel Sourcing Execution – You source your assigned components; we source ours. Both streams operate simultaneously, reducing total procurement time. Our global supply chain network ensures rapid sourcing of standard components.
- Step 3: Incoming Inspection (All Sources) – Components from both streams undergo the same incoming inspection process. LCR testing and visual verification confirm specifications, authenticity, and physical integrity. Any discrepancies are flagged immediately—regardless of source.
- Step 4: Integrated Kitting – Consigned and sourced components are kitted together for each assembly run. The production system treats all parts identically once they have passed inspection.
- Step 5: Precision Assembly – Your boards are assembled on our 12 automated SMT lines with automated wave soldering and robotic selective soldering. The assembly process does not distinguish between component sources—every part is placed and soldered to the same standards.
- Step 6: Unified Testing – AOI, SPI, 3D X-Ray, ICT, and FCT are performed on every board. The test results are captured in a single quality record, regardless of component source. Full traceability links test results to individual components from both supply streams.
- Step 7: Consolidated Shipment – Your boards ship together as a single order, with one Certificate of Conformance and one traceability report covering all components—consigned and sourced.
One of the primary concerns with mixed sourcing is quality consistency. At Studio, we eliminate this concern through standardized quality processes:
- Single Inspection Standard – All components, regardless of source, undergo LCR testing and visual inspection at incoming goods
- Integrated Traceability – Our MES system tracks every component by source, lot number, and supplier
- Unified Process Controls – The same soldering profiles, placement parameters, and inspection criteria apply to all boards
- Consistent Test Coverage – Every board receives the same AOI, SPI, X-Ray, ICT, and FCT verification
- Single Quality Record – Test results and traceability data are consolidated into a single report
- Flexible Component Classification – You decide which parts we source and which you supply
- Parallel Procurement – Faster sourcing through simultaneous execution
- Single Accountability – One partner for assembly, regardless of component source
- Consistent Quality – Same inspection and testing standards for all components
- 12 Automated SMT Lines – Precision assembly with high-volume capacity
- Full Traceability – Component source recorded and linked to every board
- Comprehensive Testing – AOI, SPI, X-Ray, ICT, FCT, and reliability lab
