The M12 Assembly Plug (also called M12 field-wireable plug, M12 field-attachable connector, M12 screw-terminal plug) is the on-site terminable cable-end counterpart of a standard M12 cordset. Instead of buying a factory-molded cable at a fixed length, you take your own cable, strip the ends, secure the conductors into the contact carrier with a screwdriver (or solder/crimp), and lock the plug body onto the cable with an M12×1.0 threaded coupling nut.
It conforms to IEC 61076-2-101 (sensor/actuator) and IEC 61076-2-109 (X-coded Ethernet), mates with any standard M12 panel receptacle or mating plug, and delivers IP67 sealing when locked with the correct O-ring and cable gland.
This is the default choice for maintenance teams, custom machine builders, and system integrators who cannot wait 2-4 weeks for a custom molded cordset, or who need to repair a damaged sensor cable on the floor in 10 minutes.
- Cut any cable to exact length, on site: No fixed 0.5 m / 1 m / 5 m SKU limits. Pull raw cable through conduit, cut to 1.2 m or 12 m, terminate in ≤10 min per plug with a small screwdriver. Eliminates leftover cable waste and speeds retrofit jobs.
- Repair, don't scrap: A forklift crushes a sensor cable? Cut off the bad section, re-strip, re-assemble the plug—machine is back online in 15 min instead of waiting for a molded replacement.
- IP67 sealed (mated) with PG7 / PG9 gland: Dual O-ring (coupling face + rear cable gland) keeps out dust, oil mist, coolant spray, and survives 1 m / 30 min immersion. PG7 fits 4-6 mm cable OD, PG9 fits 6-8 mm OD.
- Coding prevents mis-mate: A (sensors/power), B (PROFIBUS), D (100 Mbps PROFINET/EtherNet/IP), X (Gigabit), T/L/S (DC power) keyways are mechanically exclusive—no reversed L/N or swapped TX/RX.
- Lower inventory than molded cordsets: Stock 4 plug bodies (M straight / M right-angle / F straight / F right-angle) + loose O-rings + PG inserts = covers dozens of molded-SKU combinations.
