Introduction
The cold impact test apparatus is designed according to IEC60811-1-4 clause 8.5 & figure 2, ISO6722-1 clause 5.11 (cold impact), and ISO 19642-2 clause 5.5.8 & figure 11. This test verifies that cables can withstand impact at low temperatures without cracking while maintaining insulation properties.
The apparatus performs impact tests from a height of 100mm with falling weights on power cables, automotive cables, flexible cables, and cords with PVC insulation and sheaths at low temperatures. After testing, no cracks should be visible in the insulating sheaths with normal or corrected vision without additional magnification.
The apparatus works with a freezing chamber and must be placed on a 40mm thick sponge rubber pad during operation.
