The horizontal surface conforms to the standard requirements of IEC 60065-1:2014 Clause 12.1.5, IEC 62368-1:2018 Annex T.7, IEC 60950-1: 2013 Clause 4.2.6 and etc.
It is used to the portable apparatus having a mass of 7 kg or less which are subjected to a drop test. A sample of the complete apparatus is subjected to three impacts that result from being dropped through a distance of 1 m onto a horizontal surface in positions likely to produce the most adverse results.
The horizontal surface consists of hardwood at least 13mm thick, mounted on two layers of plywood each 19mm to 20mm thick, all supported on a concrete or equivalent non-resilient floor.
For each drop, the test sample shall strike the surface in a different position. When applicable, the sample is to be dropped with the batteries specified by the manufacturer.
