Passive Regeneration DPF Technology Overview
Passive regeneration utilizes chemical catalysis to reduce particle reactivity, enabling soot combustion under normal diesel engine operating conditions. This advanced emission control technology includes three primary methods:
NO2 Regeneration Method
Combines DOC and DPF systems where exhaust gases pass through DOC at 200-600°C, converting CO and HC to CO₂ and H₂O while transforming NO into NO₂. The NO₂ then oxidizes particulates in DPF to CO₂, reducing back to NO. Requires NOx to PM ratio of at least 15:1 and low-sulfur diesel fuel.
Catalytic Combustion Filter (CDPF) Regeneration
Features direct catalyst coating on filter media to lower soot ignition temperature, enabling complete regeneration at normal exhaust temperatures above 320-350°C. Requires engine thermal management and low sulfur content.
Fuel Additive Regeneration
Uses soluble metals or metal salts as additives where combustion products catalyze particles, reducing ignition temperature for self-regeneration without external energy. Note potential for additive accumulation affecting filter lifespan.
