Illustrate: Due to their special microstructure (high-hardness martensite and bainite phases dispersed in a softer ferrite matrix), duplex and multiphase steels combine strength and formability perfectly. These grades have high strain hardenability, good strain redistribution and formability. In addition, the mechanical properties of the finished part, such as yield strength, are far superior to those of the original sheet. The multi-phase steel has good roll formability, better bending performance and hole expansion performance than the dual-phase steel.
The yield strength of duplex and multiphase steels is further enhanced by a paint bake (also known as bake hardening, BH) process. In addition, the mechanical strength of the finished product gives these grades excellent fatigue strength and good energy absorption, making them suitable for use in structural parts and reinforcements.
Application: Thanks to their high energy absorption capacity and fatigue strength, cold-rolled dual-phase and multi-phase steels are particularly suitable for automotive structural and safety components such as longitudinal beams, cross members and various types of reinforcement.
