Collimators in medical CT machines are of two types.

--- X-ray tube side collimator, also called front collimator, installed in front of the CT bulb, is the component through which the X-rays pass, the X-rays from the bulb are conical, through the tungsten device with slits the main function is to select the layer thickness of the X-rays by controlling the width of the X-rays in the direction parallel to the long axis of the body, thus controlling the thickness of the scanned layer.

--- Detector-side collimator, also called post-collimator, whose slits are aligned to each detector separately so that the detector receives only rays incident perpendicular to the detector and minimizes the scattered rays from other directions interference from other directions.

The collimator slit is formed by a large number of blades evenly distributed into the line, so the thickness, flatness and surface roughness of the collimator molybdenum blade itself is extremely demanding. The material of collimator blade can be collimator tungsten blade, tungsten alloy collimator blade and collimator molybdenum blade according to different manufacturers' requirements.
