Pure tungsten electrode is a kind of electrode product with refractory metal tungsten as the main raw material, it is the earliest electrode used in TIG welding, but due to the high electron escape work, high tip temperature and easy grain growth of this electrode, it leads to difficulty in starting the arc, unstable arc beam and short service life, so the application field is limited, basically used in AC welding.Some researchers have pointed out that some modifiers such as rare earth oxides can be added to the pure tungsten production process, which will enable the prepared electrode products to have a higher overall performance and a wider range of applications.

Features:

The main reasons why a certain amount of rare earth oxides are added to pure tungsten are: (1) rare earth oxides have lower electron escape work, so they can improve the recrystallization temperature and electron emission ability of tungsten electrode products; (2) rare earth particles can improve the arc starting performance, arc column stability and ablation resistance of electrodes because they will hinder the deformation of tungsten grains. At present, the common rare earth oxides are cerium oxide, lanthanum oxide and yttrium oxide.
