2A12 Aluminum Bar Characteristics:
2A12 is the oldest of all aircraft aluminum alloy with the main alloying element being copper, and belongs to the heat-treated alloy sheet. They require solution heat-treatment to obtain optimum properties. Applications that require high strength to weight ratio, as well as good fatigue resistance.
2A12 aluminum bar has excellent machinability and good spot welding property. It is weldable only through friction welding, when gas welding and argon arc welding, there is a tendency to form intergranular cracks. The corrosion resistance is not high, in order to improve the corrosion resistance of anodic oxidation treatment and often used methods of paint or aluminum surface layer.
2A12 aluminum alloy hardening in the cold after the cutting performance is good. Due to its high strength and fatigue resistance, 2A12 is widely used in aircraft structures, especially wing and fuselage structures under tension. 2A12 comes in different tempers. Generally the majority of aircraft extrusions are produced in 2A12-H111. This is the most common alloy and temper of extrusions.
