Safe And Stable Vertebroplasty Procedure Spinal Bone Cement For Spinal Alignment
Spinal bone cement, also known as vertebral augmentation cement, is a specialized medical-grade material used in procedures such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. It is typically composed of a powder component mixed with a liquid component to form a viscous or paste-like consistency that hardens quickly after injection.
The most commonly used spinal bone cement is polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). PMMA is a biocompatible material that has been used for many years in various orthopedic procedures. It has proven to be safe and effective in stabilizing fractured vertebrae and providing structural support.
During vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty procedures, spinal bone cement is injected into the fractured vertebral body. The cement is delivered through small tubes or cannulae that are inserted into the vertebra under image guidance. Once injected, the cement fills the void or cavity created by the procedure, providing stabilization, pain relief, and potentially restoring vertebral height.
The cement hardens rapidly, usually within minutes, and becomes a solid mass that supports the fractured vertebra. The hardened cement reinforces the weakened bone, reduces the risk of further collapse, and can help restore spinal alignment.
