ASTM A335 P11 Seamless Ferritic Alloy-Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service
ASTM A335 P11 is a seamless ferritic alloy-steel pipe within the chromium-molybdenum (Cr-Mo) system, engineered for high-temperature/pressure service. Its microstructure consists of tempered bainite or ferrite-pearlite (depending on heat treatment), where the controlled alloying of Cr (1.00-1.50%) and Mo (0.44-0.65%) ensures superior creep resistance and rupture strength within the 540-593°C range. Manufactured via seamless hot-finished or cold-drawn processes, the pipe requires normalization and tempering to enhance grain boundary stability. It is certified for ASME B31.1/B31.3-regulated power piping and high-temperature refinery/petrochemical pipelines.

2. Key Adventages
- High-Temperature Performance Advantages
Maintains excellent creep resistance at 540-593°C, with 2-3 times longer service life than carbon steel (e.g. A106)
Maintains rupture strength >60MPa under 593°C/100,000h condition
1.25% Cr content forms dense Cr₂O₃ scale, reducing oxidation rate by 80% vs carbon steel
- Cost-Effectiveness Advantages
15-20% cost saving vs P22, most economical choice for <600°C service
Excellent high-temp stability extends maintenance intervals by 50% vs carbon steel
-
Fabrication Advantages
Standard PWHT(650-750°C) is sufficient, much simpler than high-alloy steels
Supports both hot bending(>950°C) and cold bending(annealing required)
-
Reliability Advantages
Normalizing+Tempering creates stable ferrite+pearlite structure
Complies with both ASME BPV Code and ASTM A335 standards
3. Key Applications
-
Power Industry: Power plant boilers (superheaters, reheaters, main steam pipelines)
- Petrochemical Industry: Refinery hydrogenation units, cracking equipment pipelines
- Natural Gas Transmission: High-pressure natural gas gathering pipelines
- Industrial Boilers: High-pressure boiler heat exchangers, economizers, headers
- Chemical Processing: High-temperature reactors, heat exchanger tubing
