Warnings & Precautions

Charging

  • Use a NiMH-Specific Charger: Always use a charger designed for NiMH chemistry and configured for this battery's voltage (4.5V) and current limits.
  • Avoid Overcharging: While NiMH batteries are somewhat tolerant, excessive overcharging can damage them. Use chargers with proper termination methods (e.g., -ΔV, timer) for fast charging .

  • Temperature Monitoring: Charge only within the specified temperature range (-20°C to +60°C or as per manufacturer's specs). Charging outside this range can reduce capacity and cause damage . 

 

Discharging

  • Avoid Deep Discharge: Avoid discharging the battery pack below the cut-off voltage of 3.0V repeatedly, as this can shorten its lifespan .
  • Temperature Management: Avoid discharging outside the recommended temperature range (-20°C to +85°C). Extreme cold can reduce performance; extreme heat can accelerate aging .

  • Prevent Short Circuits: Never allow the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals to connect directly. Short circuits can cause very high currents, leading to overheating, damage, or fire.

 

Storage

  • Partial Charge Storage: For long-term storage, it is often recommended to store NiMH batteries at a partial state of charge (around 40-60%) in a cool, dry place .
