Commonly known as swing gearbox, the excavator slewing reducer is an indispensable transmission part between slewing motor and slewing large gear ring. It reduces rotating speed and boosts torque to realize smooth 360° rotation of the upper assembly.
Core Structure
- Sun gear: Connects slewing motor through splines for high-speed power input.
- Planet gear: 3–4 pieces per stage; rotates around sun gear meanwhile spinning itself to transmit torque.
- Ring gear: Fixed to reducer casing and meshes with planet gears.
- Planet carrier: Delivers output power and drives the bottom drive pinion.
- Brake: Integrated wet multi-disc brake; spring braking, hydraulic release to prevent idle slewing.
- Housing & Bearing: High-strength cast/forged steel casing, heavy-load bearings, good dustproof and anti-leakage performance.
Working Principle
Hydraulic motor outputs high-speed low-torque power, passing through two-stage planetary gears for deceleration and torque rise. The pinion runs at low speed and high torque, meshes with slewing bearing inner gear ring, and drives upper structure slewing.
Common Faults & Causes
- Noise & stuttering: Gear wear/pitting, bearing damage, lack of oil/oil contamination, abnormal meshing gap.
- Oil leakage: Oil seal aging, casing cracks, over oil level, breather valve clogging.
- Weak & slow slewing: Gear/bearing wear, brake release failure, motor internal leakage, unmatched speed ratio.
- Overheating: Insufficient oil/oil aging, overload, brake drag, poor heat dissipation.
- Gear jumping & broken teeth: Impact load, foreign substance ingress, fatigue wear, mounting misalignment.
