Function
Serving as the power actuator for excavator slewing movement, the hydraulic swing motor receives pressurized hydraulic fluid delivered by the main pump, transforming hydraulic power into rotational mechanical power. It cooperates with the swing reduction gearbox to drive the machine upper body to rotate bidirectionally around the central pivot, supporting flexible positioning, soil dumping and stacking construction operations.
Structure
Key internal parts cover rotating assemblies (plungers, cylinder barrel, port plate, pressure plate and slipper assemblies), spring-loaded parking brake unit, anti-drift balancing valve, pressure limiting overflow valve and charge check valve subassemblies. Matched planetary swing reducer realizes torque amplification and speed reduction, outputting large driving torque to withstand heavy eccentric loads during slewing work. The built-in wet brake structure automatically engages locking state once hydraulic control pressure disappears.
Working Principle
Operating the swing pilot handle outputs pilot pressure oil to disengage the parking brake mechanism. Alternating high-pressure oil supply to two motor service ports pushes plungers to do linear reciprocating motion inside cylinder barrel; the port plate completes continuous oil distribution between inlet and outlet chambers to drive rotary group and output shaft rotation. The anti-rebound balancing valve counteracts back pressure formed by rotational inertia, eliminating upper body reverse swing phenomenon after operation stop. Pressure limiting overflow valve prevents overpressure impact damage, while charge check valve replenishes low-pressure oil to eliminate internal vacuum cavitation risk.
Common Failures
Clearance enlargement from plunger and cylinder barrel wear, port plate surface scratch or slipper ablation induces heavy internal leakage, presenting symptoms of insufficient slewing power, sluggish rotation and slow stop response. Fatigued brake springs, worn friction plates or seized brake valve spools cause incomplete brake disengagement, manifested as stiff rotation, rotational shaking or parking slip failure. Malfunctioned anti-drift valve leads to noticeable backward rotation after swing stop. Serious internal leakage converts pressure loss into thermal energy, triggering abnormal hydraulic oil overheating; damaged bearings or metal impurities inside the motor generate abnormal impact noise during operation. Aging outer sealing rings result in external oil seepage.
Maintenance
Conduct regular visual inspection on motor shell, sealing positions and tubing connections for hydraulic leakage. Follow schedule to renew hydraulic oil and filter cartridges to stop abrasive wear of precision internal mating parts. Routinely measure brake gap and friction plate wear degree, implement timely replacement for over-threshold brake components. Keep drain line unblocked to prevent excessive internal casing pressure. Periodically test working performance of charge valve and overflow valve, disassemble and clean stuck valve spools to maintain steady slewing smoothness and dependable braking effect.
