Acting as the core power component of excavator hydraulic loops, the main hydraulic pump draws driving power from the engine to convert mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It delivers pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to realize all working motions of the excavator. Axial variable displacement piston pumps are standard equipment on most engineering excavators. Medium and large excavator units utilize an integrated dual main pump and rear pilot gear pump combination. Two independent high-pressure oil supply loops supply fluid to the main control valve, supporting composite working movements, with a rated working pressure of 28MPa to 35MPa. The low-pressure pilot pump installed at the machine tail runs at a pressure of 3–4MPa with low flow output, providing pilot pressure oil for control handle operation and main valve spool control. Piston groups secured to the cylinder block and pump housing rotate with the main shaft, completing oil absorption and pressurization workflows. Adjustments to the swash plate inclination angle change piston stroke, which modulates the pump’s displacement capacity. An external servo regulator adjusts swash plate position based on hydraulic feedback signals. Enlarging the tilt angle enhances flow rate and working efficiency, while narrowing it reduces fuel consumption and avoids engine shutdown. The valve plate divides low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to achieve hydraulic oil distribution. The pump integrates three core control functions to ensure stable and reliable operation. Constant power control automatically lowers pump displacement when load pressure rises, protecting the engine and improving power utilization efficiency. The LS load-sensing system delivers flow according to real working requirements and retains low idle displacement to save fuel. The HP pressure limiting function cuts pump displacement at peak pressure values, preventing hydraulic pipeline and oil cylinder rupture damage. Common equipment faults involve internal leakage due to worn pistons, fractured valve plates or blocked regulators, causing slow operating speed and inadequate power output. A stuck maximum-displacement regulator results in engine overload, black smoke emission and stalling during heavy-duty tasks. Excessive internal leakage converts pressure loss into thermal energy, triggering abnormal hydraulic oil temperature increases. System air intake, insufficient hydraulic fluid and damaged bearings or pistons produce abnormal operational noise. Regular daily maintenance entails replacing hydraulic oil and filter elements periodically to prevent abrasion of precision internal components. Maintaining superior tightness of oil suction pipes prevents air ingestion and equipment vibration, while keeping hydraulic oil at standard levels sustains stable pump operating performance.
