Excavator Swing Drive Motor DX80 Hydraulic Swing Reduction Assembly Gearbox
As a key transmission component, the swing reducer (commonly called swing gearbox) of an excavator links the slewing motor to the large slewing gear ring. Its core purpose is to lower speed and raise torque, achieving smooth full‑circle 360° rotation of the upper structure.
Main Structural Layout
Sun Gear: Matched with slewing motor splines, it imports high‑speed power energy.
Planet Gears: 3‑4 gears for every stage, rotating circumferentially around and axially on the sun gear for torque transmission.
Ring Gear: Permanently fixed to the housing and meshes with the planet gear assembly.
Planet Carrier: Provides power output to drive the lower small driving pinion.
Brake: Built‑in wet multi‑disc braking unit, spring‑activated engagement and hydraulic‑driven release, preventing backward rotational movement.
Housing & Bearings: High‑strength cast/forged steel housing structure, supported by heavy‑duty bearings, dust‑resistant and leakage‑preventive.

Typical Malfunction Types & Root Causes
- Irregular noise / Stuttering operation status: Gear surface wear and pitting defects, bearing functional failure, inadequate or polluted lubrication medium, improper meshing clearance of gears.
- Oil infiltration and leakage failures: Worn oil seal components, housing crack damages, overfilled lubricant level height, clogged ventilation breather port.
