In construction machinery applications, the swing reducer of an excavator, commonly called the swing gearbox, acts as an essential transmission unit connecting the slewing motor and large slewing gear ring. It mainly provides speed reduction and torque increase to ensure steady 360° rotation of the upper assembly.
Core Component Structure
Sun Gear: Connected to the spline section of the slewing motor for high‑speed power intake.
Planet Gears: Three to four gears per stage revolve around and rotate on the sun gear to transmit torque.
Ring Gear: Permanently mounted on the housing and engages with planetary gear groups.
Planet Carrier: Delivers output power to drive the bottom small driving gear.
Brake: Built‑in wet multi‑plate braking system, locked by springs and released hydraulically to prevent backward rotation.
Housing and Bearings: High‑strength cast/forged steel housing equipped with heavy‑load bearings, featuring dust and oil leakage resistance.

- Abnormal sound and jerky movement: Gear abrasion and pitting corrosion, bearing failure, lack of or contaminated lubricant, unsuitable meshing backlash.
