Commonly called the swing gearbox, the excavator swing reducer is an essential transmission unit between the swing motor and large swing gear ring. It reduces speed while amplifying torque to drive the upper structure into steady 360° swing motion.
Core Structure
• Sun gear: Coupled to the slewing motor via splines to receive high-speed power input.
• Planet gear: Each stage is equipped with 3 to 4 gears, which revolve around the sun gear while spinning on their own axes for torque transmission.
• Ring gear: Mounted on the reducer housing and meshes with the planet gears.
• Planet carrier: Serves as the power output member to drive the bottom pinion gear.
• Brake: Adopts an integrated wet multi-disc brake; spring-on and hydraulic-off design prevents unintended slewing drifting.
• Housing and bearings: Made of high-strength cast steel or forged steel, matched with heavy-duty bearings, offering reliable dustproof and oil-leakage-proof capability.

Working Principle
The hydraulic motor delivers power at high speed and low torque, which is transmitted to the sun gear. Power then passes through the first-stage planet gears and primary planet carrier, before transferring to the secondary sun gear and second-stage planetary assembly. After being decelerated by the two-stage planetary mechanism, power is output via the secondary planet carrier. The pinion rotates at low speed with high torque, meshes with the inner gear ring of the slewing bearing, and ultimately drives the excavator upper structure to perform rotational movement.
Common Faults and Causes
• Abnormal noise / Jerking: Gear wear and surface pitting, bearing failure, lubricant shortage or contaminated oil, improper gear meshing clearance.
• Oil leakage: Aged oil seals, housing cracks, overfilled lubricant, blocked breather valve.
• Insufficient / Sluggish slewing: Worn gears or bearings, incomplete brake release, hydraulic motor internal leakage, mismatched transmission ratio.
• Excessive overheating: Low lubricant level or oil degradation, overloaded operation, brake drag, insufficient heat dissipation.
• Gear skipping / Tooth fracture: Sudden impact load, ingress of foreign particles, fatigue wear, assembly misalignment.
