The swing reducer (colloquially swing gearbox) of an excavator acts as a core transmission connector between the slewing motor and the large slewing gear ring. Its essential function lies in decelerating rotation and amplifying torque, realizing seamless 360‑degree rotation of the upper structural assembly.

Fundamental Component Structure

Sun Gear: Matched to slewing motor spline teeth, it inputs high‑speed rotational power source.
Planet Gears: 3‑4 individual gears per stage, revolving around the sun gear with self‑rotation to transfer torque energy.
Ring Gear: Fixed securely to the housing and meshes with the planet gear assembly group.
Planet Carrier: Transmits output driving power to operate the lower small drive pinion gear.
Brake: Internal wet‑style multi‑disc brake assembly, spring‑engaged locking and hydraulically‑released disengagement, preventing reverse rotation of the slewing mechanism.

Low‑torque high‑speed power from the hydraulic motor is transmitted via the sun gear, primary planetary gear set and secondary planetary gear set to the output planet carrier.
