The swing gearbox of an excavator is a key transmission part linking slewing motor and slewing ring gear. It lowers speed and increases torque, allowing the upper structure to rotate smoothly 360 degrees.
Core Structure
- Sun gear: Splined to slewing motor for high-speed power input.
- Planet gear: 3–4 per stage; revolves around sun gear and rotates independently for torque transfer.
- Ring gear: Fixed on housing and meshed with planet gears.
- Planet carrier: Outputs power to drive the lower pinion.
- Brake: Wet multi-disc built-in brake; spring braking, hydraulic release to prevent slewing slip.
- Housing & Bearing: High-strength steel housing, heavy-duty bearings, dustproof and leakproof.
Working Principle
Hydraulic motor high-speed low-torque power → two-stage planetary deceleration → pinion low-speed high-torque rotation → mesh with slewing bearing inner gear ring → drive upper structure slewing.
