Cylinder Head Assembly for Excavator Engines The cylinder head is one of the most crucial heavy-duty precision components in an engine. Installed on the upper part of the cylinder block, it seals the cylinders, forms combustion chambers, integrates the valve train and cooling-lubrication passages, and directly determines engine power, fuel efficiency and operational reliability. Core Functions Sealing the Combustion Chamber: Closely mated with the cylinder block and cylinder head gasket, it endures 10–15 MPa of combustion pressure and 600–900 °C of high temperature, preventing air, water and oil leakage. Valve Train Mounting Base: It accommodates valve seats, valve guides, intake and exhaust valves, valve springs, rocker arms and camshafts (overhead-cam model), controlling intake and exhaust timing. Integrated Cooling and Lubrication System: Internal cast water jackets dissipate heat, and oil galleries lubricate valves and camshafts, avoiding thermal deformation and component wear. Fuel Injection Mounting Interface: The cylinder head of a diesel engine is machined with injector mounting holes to ensure precise injection of high-pressure fuel into the combustion chamber. Common Faults Surface Distortion / Warpage: Resulting from overheating, uneven bolt torque or damaged cylinder head gaskets, symptoms include air leakage, power loss and high coolant temperature; grinding repair is required when flatness exceeds 0.10 mm. Cracks: Cracks form in the vicinity of water passages, oil galleries or valve seats, leading to water, oil and air leakage; flaw detection is needed, and severely cracked cylinder heads must be discarded. Valve Seat / Guide Wear: Long-term high-temperature impact causes seal failure, valve noise and oil consumption; replacement of seat inserts and guides plus valve lapping is necessary. Injector Bore Corrosion: Induced by fuel leakage and high-temperature gas erosion, it results in poor sealing and insufficient power; repair by inserting a bushing or replacing the cylinder head is required.
