Operational Purpose
Hydraulic main pump constitutes the prime power source of excavator hydraulic system. Driven mechanically by engine output, it accomplishes energy conversion from mechanical form to high-pressure hydraulic energy, providing pressurized working fluid for all executive hydraulic components including boom cylinder, arm cylinder, bucket cylinder, travel and swing motors.

Structural Composition
Pump casing plus cylinder block assembly accommodates a set of plungers which complete oil intake and pressurization synchronously with main shaft rotation. Swash plate angular variation changes plunger stroke and volumetric displacement of pump unit. Externally fitted regulator manipulates swash plate inclination via pilot hydraulic signal. Greater inclination equals larger displacement, higher flow rate and faster executive movement; reduced inclination decreases flow consumption and avoids engine overload shutdown. Valve plate performs flow distribution and physical isolation between low-pressure inlet cavity and high-pressure delivery cavity.
Three Control Mechanisms
Constant power regulation decreases pump displacement proportionally as load rises to optimize power utilization and eliminate engine stall risk. Load sensing control matches output flow with real-time system demand and maintains small displacement under no-load working condition for energy conservation. Pressure cutoff control rapidly reduces displacement to minimal value when system pressure reaches threshold value to prevent hose and cylinder burst from overpressure.
Common Defect Analysis
Piston/valve plate abrasion-induced internal leakage or regulator jamming leads to insufficient output flow and sluggish whole-unit motion. Regulator stuck at maximum displacement triggers excessive oil supply, engine overload, stall and black exhaust emission. Excessive internal leakage converts hydraulic power loss into thermal energy and causes abnormal fluid temperature rise. Air entrainment, insufficient lubricant or damaged inner bearing/plunger components are primary contributors to abnormal pump vibration and noise.
Routine Maintenance Specification
Periodic replacement of hydraulic medium and filter elements avoids abrasive particle damage on precision friction parts; tight sealing of suction piping prevents air infiltration and operational jitter; hydraulic oil must stay at specified liquid level to avoid premature pump breakdown.
