The hydraulic main pump is the engine-driven hydraulic power core for modern excavators, converting mechanical rotation into high-pressure hydraulic flow to run boom, arm, bucket, track drive and swing systems. Standard axial variable piston pump design is widely used in the industry, while mid-size and large excavators come with dual main pump units and rear pilot pumps. Main system pressure reaches 28~35MPa and pilot control pressure stays at 3~4MPa. The pump unit is built with cylinder piston assembly, angle-adjustable swash plate, external flow regulator and distribution valve plate to regulate pump displacement, oil delivery and fuel efficiency. Three core control features prevent engine stall during heavy workloads, supply oil flow on demand to reduce fuel waste, and cut down displacement at maximum pressure to protect hydraulic parts. Common field issues include sluggish operation, engine black smoke, overheated hydraulic fluid and pump noise, which can be minimized with regular filter changes, sealed suction lines and correct oil levels.
