Acting as the central hydraulic power unit of excavator machinery, the main hydraulic pump is engine-propelled to convert mechanical rotation into high-pressure hydraulic fluid, powering boom, dipper, bucket, travel and slew mechanisms across the machine. The axial variable piston pump is the standard configuration for construction excavators, with medium and heavy plant machinery fitted with integrated dual main pumps and rear pilot pumps. The main circuit pressure operates at 28~35MPa whilst the pilot control circuit maintains 3~4MPa. The assembly comprises cylinder block piston sets, angle-variable swash plate, side-mounted flow regulator and distribution valve plate, modulating pump displacement, fluid output and fuel consumption. Integrated constant power, load sensing and pressure cut-back systems prevent engine cut-out under load, optimise fuel usage via demand-based flow and protect hydraulic fittings at peak pressure. Typical operational faults include poor machine performance, exhaust fumes, fluid overheating and abnormal pump sound, which are reduced through scheduled servicing, sealed pipework and correct hydraulic fluid levels.
