Function
As the core power equipment of excavator hydraulic circuits, the hydraulic main pump is powered by the engine. It completes the conversion from mechanical energy to high-pressure hydraulic energy, and transports pressurized medium to hydraulic motors to drive all working movements.
Type
Most construction excavators are equipped with axial variable piston pumps. Medium and large tonnage excavators adopt integrated double main pumps and a rear pilot gear pump.
The dual high-pressure pumps feature separate oil supply lines, feeding the main control valve for combined movements, with working pressure 28~35MPa.
The low-pressure pilot pump installed on the pump tail works at 3~4MPa with low flow, providing control oil for operating handles and valve spools.

Three Control Modes
Constant power control reduces pump displacement automatically when load rises, protecting the engine and utilizing power fully.
The LS load sensing system supplies flow as required and maintains low displacement at idle to save fuel.
The HP pressure limiting function minimizes pump displacement at maximum system pressure to protect hydraulic pipes and cylinders.

Common Failures
Worn pistons, defective valve plates or clogged regulators will cause internal leakage, resulting in slow operation and power shortage.
When the regulator is stuck at maximum displacement, the engine will overload, emit black smoke and stall under heavy loads.
Severe internal leakage converts pressure loss into heat, leading to abnormal hydraulic oil temperature rise. Air, low oil level or damaged parts will create unusual noise.

Maintenance
Regularly renew hydraulic oil and filter elements to prevent abrasion on precision components. Ensure tight sealing of suction pipelines to avoid air intake and vibration. Keep hydraulic fluid at the specified level.
