Function
The hydraulic main pump is a vital power component of excavator hydraulic circuits. Driven by the engine, it achieves the conversion from mechanical energy to high-pressure hydraulic energy, and delivers pressurized fluid to hydraulic motors to drive all operational movements.
Type
Axial variable displacement piston pumps are the mainstream choice for engineering excavators. Medium and large tonnage excavators adopt integrated dual main pumps equipped with a rear pilot gear pump.
The dual high-pressure pumps adopt two independent oil supply passages, feeding oil to the main control valve to realize composite actions, with working pressure 28~35MPa.
The low-pressure pilot pump mounted on the pump tail runs at 3~4MPa with low flow rate, providing pilot oil for operating levers and main valve spools.

Internal Parts
The housing and cylinder block are fitted with multiple piston assemblies, which rotate with the main shaft to complete oil suction and pressure build-up.

Common Failures
Internal leakage resulting from worn pistons, damaged valve plates or regulator blockage leads to slow operation and insufficient power.
Regulator locked at maximum displacement will cause engine overload, black smoke and stall under heavy load.
Excessive internal leakage converts pressure loss into thermal energy and causes hydraulic oil temperature to rise abnormally. Air entrainment, insufficient oil or damaged bearings and pistons will produce abnormal noise.

Maintenance
Replace hydraulic oil and filter elements periodically to prevent abrasive damage to precision parts. Ensure suction pipelines are well sealed to avoid air intake and vibration. Keep hydraulic fluid at standard level to avoid pump failure.
