Function
Being the core power element of excavator hydraulic systems, the hydraulic main pump is driven by the engine. It realizes conversion of mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy and transmits pressurized medium to each hydraulic motor to drive boom, stick, bucket, travel and swing functions.
Type
Axial variable piston pumps are widely adopted on construction excavators. Medium and large tonnage excavators use integrated dual main pumps matched with a rear pilot gear pump.
The dual high-pressure pumps adopt separate oil supply routes, feeding oil to main control valve ports to realize coordinated composite actions, working pressure range: 28~35MPa.
The low-pressure pilot pump fixed at pump tail runs at 3~4MPa with low flow volume, providing pilot control oil for operation handles and main valve spools.

Internal Parts
The housing and cylinder block contain multiple piston assemblies rotating synchronously with main shaft to finish oil suction and pressurization work.
Changing swash plate tilt angle adjusts piston stroke length and pump volumetric displacement.
External servo regulator actuates swash plate based on hydraulic feedback signals. Larger angle increases displacement and flow for faster operation; smaller angle lowers fuel consumption and prevents engine stall risk.
The valve plate separates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to complete fluid distribution work.

Constant power regulation automatically cuts pump displacement as load increases, protecting engine and making full use of output power.
The LS load-sensing system supplies flow according to actual working requirement and maintains low displacement at idle to reduce fuel consumption.
HP pressure limiting function reduces pump displacement at system peak pressure, protecting hydraulic pipes and cylinders from breakage damage.

Internal leakage induced by piston wear, valve plate damage or regulator clogging results in slow action speed and insufficient power output.
Regulator locked at maximum displacement position causes engine overload, black smoke emission and engine stall under heavy load conditions.
