The main hydraulic pump serves as the primary power unit of the excavator’s hydraulic circuit. Powered by the engine, it converts mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy and supplies pressurized fluid to hydraulic motors, driving all operational movements of the excavator. Engineering excavators predominantly use axial variable displacement piston pumps as main hydraulic pumps. Medium and large construction machines adopt an integrated twin main pump system combined with a rear pilot gear pump module. Two autonomous high-pressure oil supply lines deliver fluid to the main control valve to realize composite working actions, with a standard working pressure of 28 to 35MPa. The tail-end low-pressure pilot pump runs at 3–4MPa with low flow output, providing pilot pressure oil for control lever and main valve spool operation. Inside the pump, piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate synchronously with the main shaft, finishing oil suction and pressure build-up. Swash plate inclination adjustment modifies piston stroke, thereby changing the pump’s displacement capacity. The external servo regulator actuates swash plate movement in response to hydraulic feedback signals. A larger swash plate angle boosts fluid flow and operation speed, while a smaller angle reduces fuel consumption and eliminates engine stalling issues. The valve plate separates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to complete hydraulic oil distribution. Three intelligent control modes are configured for the pump. Constant power control automatically cuts pump displacement as load increases, protecting the engine and optimizing power utilization rate. The LS load-sensing system provides on-demand fluid flow and maintains low displacement at idle to achieve fuel-saving effects. The HP pressure limiting function reduces pump displacement when pressure reaches its peak, preventing hydraulic pipelines and cylinders from cracking. Typical failures include internal leakage caused by piston abrasion, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, resulting in slow machine operation and power deficit. If the regulator is fixed at maximum displacement, the engine will suffer overload, emit black smoke and stall under heavy working loads. Severe internal leakage converts pressure loss into heat, leading to abnormal hydraulic oil overheating. Air entering the hydraulic system, inadequate oil volume, and damaged bearings or pistons will induce abnormal running noise. Routine maintenance requires timely replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to avoid wear on precision internal parts. Guarantee tight sealing of suction pipelines to prevent air suction and equipment vibration, and keep hydraulic oil at the specified level to ensure stable pump working efficiency.
