The main hydraulic pump undertakes the core power supply task for an excavator’s hydraulic circuit. Driven by the onboard engine, it converts mechanical power into high-pressure hydraulic power and supplies pressurized oil to hydraulic motors, supporting all operational actions of the excavator. Axial variable displacement piston pumps are the mainstream main hydraulic pumps for engineering excavators. An integrated twin main pump system with a rear-mounted pilot gear pump module is adopted for medium and large construction equipment. Two separate high-pressure oil supply lines deliver hydraulic fluid to the main control valve to realize combined working motions, with a standard working pressure spanning 28 to 35MPa. The tail low-pressure pilot pump works at 3–4MPa with low flow output, providing pilot pressure oil to actuate control levers and main valve spools. Inside the pump body, piston assemblies fixed on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate synchronously with the main shaft, completing oil absorption and pressure accumulation processes. Modifying the swash plate’s inclination changes piston stroke length, thus adjusting the pump’s displacement capacity. The external servo regulator controls swash plate motion in response to real-time hydraulic feedback. Increasing the swash plate angle boosts fluid delivery and operating speed, while reducing it minimizes fuel usage and eliminates engine stall faults. The valve plate separates low-pressure intake and high-pressure discharge channels to distribute hydraulic oil orderly. The pump is equipped with three smart control functions. Constant power control automatically decreases pump displacement as load grows, protecting the engine and optimizing power usage. The LS load-sensing system provides adaptive fluid flow and keeps low idle displacement for fuel conservation. The HP pressure limiting function lowers pump displacement at peak pressure to prevent hydraulic pipeline and cylinder rupture. Typical malfunctions cover internal leakage caused by piston abrasion, valve plate failure or regulator clogging, leading to sluggish machine movement and power shortage. When the regulator is locked at maximum displacement, the engine will overload, produce black smoke and stall under heavy working conditions. Serious internal leakage turns pressure loss into thermal energy, resulting in abnormal hydraulic oil overheating. Air entering the hydraulic system, inadequate oil quantity, and faulty bearings or pistons will cause abnormal running noise. Routine maintenance requires regular replacement of hydraulic oil and filter elements to reduce wear on precision internal components. Suction pipelines need reliable sealing to avoid air suction and equipment vibration, and hydraulic oil must be maintained at the specified level to guarantee stable pump operation efficiency.
