Serving as the primary power unit of excavator hydraulic circuits, the main hydraulic pump is engine-driven to transform mechanical energy into high-pressure hydraulic energy. It supplies pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydraulic motors to drive all operational movements of the excavator. Engineering excavation machines mostly utilize axial variable displacement piston pumps as their main hydraulic pumping units. Medium and large construction machinery adopts an integrated dual main pump system combined with a rear pilot gear pump module. Two individual high-pressure oil supply pipelines convey fluid to the main control valve to achieve compound working actions, with a standard working pressure of 28–35MPa. The tail-mounted low-pressure pilot pump runs at 3 to 4MPa with low flow output, offering pilot pressure oil for control lever and main valve spool actuation. Inside the pump, piston assemblies mounted on the cylinder block and pump housing rotate synchronously with the main shaft, finishing oil suction and pressure build-up cycles. Swash plate angle adjustment changes piston stroke, thereby modifying the pump’s displacement capability. The external servo regulator controls swash plate movement based on hydraulic feedback signals. An enlarged swash plate angle increases fluid flow rate and operation speed, whereas a reduced angle lowers fuel consumption and prevents engine stalling. The valve plate segregates low-pressure inlet and high-pressure outlet channels to complete hydraulic oil distribution work. The pump is configured with three intelligent control modes. Constant power control automatically cuts pump displacement under increased load conditions, protecting the engine and enhancing power utilization rates. The LS load-sensing system provides on-demand fluid supply and maintains low displacement at idle status to realize fuel-saving effects. The HP pressure limiting function reduces pump displacement when pressure reaches the maximum threshold, preventing hydraulic pipelines and cylinders from cracking damage. Typical equipment failures include internal leakage resulting from piston abrasion, valve plate damage or regulator blockage, which leads to slow machine operation and insufficient power output. A regulator fixed at maximum displacement will cause engine overload, black smoke exhaust and stalling during heavy-load operation. Severe internal leakage converts hydraulic pressure loss into heat energy, triggering abnormal overheating of hydraulic oil. Hydraulic system air ingress, insufficient oil volume, and damaged bearings or pistons will induce abnormal operating noise. Regular maintenance demands timely replacement of hydraulic oil and filters to avoid wear on precision internal pump parts. Tight sealing of suction pipelines must be ensured to prevent air inhalation and equipment vibration, and hydraulic oil levels must meet specified standards to maintain stable pump working efficiency.
